DON'T DELAY YOUR MOT TEST

We are encouraging all of our customers to have their vehicle MOT tested as close to the original date as possible and here is why.

Despite the majority of drivers using their vehicles far less in recent months, we believe the MOT Test is an essential part of the vehicles yearly usage cycle.

An MOT test ensures that essential safety elements of your car are working correctly, elements that could save lives. During the 12 months since your last test, dependent upon usage, these elements may have experienced a reduction in their full function which we believe is not something to risk.

Essential safety elements of your vehicle covered by MOT:

TYRES

Your tyres will loose effectiveness over time as they wear, especially in extreme wet weather conditions, on slippery road surfaces and in an emergency braking situation.

The tyre must be of an appropriate speed and load rating for the vehicle. Tread depth must not be below the legal limit of 1.6mm, and tyres will be examined for cuts in excess of 25mm, lumps, bulges, tears, exposure of the cord and tread separation. For vehicles with run-flat tyres, the warning light must operate correctly. Road wheels must be in good general condition.

BRAKES

Your brake performance is of the upmost importance especially if an emergency situation arises. Without fully functioning brakes your stopping distance will be drastically reduced.

The overall condition of the brakes, pedals and levers are inspected, as well as any relevant warning lights. A brake performance test will be carried out to test brake efficiency.

SEAT BELTS

In an emergency your seat belt will save your life.

Each seat belt (including the attachment and adjustment fittings) will be checked for its security and condition.

LIGHTING

Your lights not only illuminate your way in the dark, but they are an essential part of road travel instructing other drivers of your presence and your motoring actions such as braking and turning.

To pass the MOT check, front, rear, brake, fog, indicator and registration plate lights and rear reflectors must: be correctly positioned and secure, not be obscured, be in good condition, show the correct colour, not be adversely affected by the operation of any other light, illuminate with a single operation of the switch, pairs of lights must emit light of the same colour, size and shape, headlight aim (both dip beam and main beam) should be below the horizontal, so as not to dazzle other drivers.

STEERING

The condition of your steering system is essential for the accuracy of driver control.

Assess the strength and condition of the steering wheel and inspecting for wear or damage to the steering components. If your steering has a locking device, it'll be tested to ensure it only locks when the engine is not running. Vehicles with power steering must have at least the minimum level of power steering fluid in the reservoir.

The MOT test covers many other elements of your vehicles including; battery quality and security, horn function, wiring, exhaust and emissions, speedometer accuracy and illumination, mirrors, wipers, windscreen quality and much more.

Please drive safe and we hope to see you very soon.
